The SAN-DAL enhances proprioception, the sense of one’s own body in the environment, while at the same time protecting the wearer against injury.
From a biomechanical point of view, good proprioception is needed as input for the body to adjust to different positions and surfaces, and to control balance and stability.

Nanofasa Conservation Trust‘s Aleksandra is taking a 1200 km walk across Namibia with 2 Ju/’Hoan San-people, who are wearing these indigenous inspired sandals.

The University of Liverpool, Future Footwear Foundation, is currently analyzing the biomechanical implications of the SAN-DAL.
